What is happening?
Truecaller, the famous app we use to see who is calling, has started a new service called eSIM for people who travel to other countries. This will help travelers get internet data easily without changing their plastic SIM cards.
Why are they doing this? Truecaller is losing money from mobile advertisements. In fact, their ad income dropped by nearly half recently, and they even had to fire 70 workers. To make more money, they are starting new services like this eSIM, along with their paid AI Assistant and Family Protection plans.

What are the plans and where is it available?
- The Plans: You can buy a small data pack of 1 GB for 7 days, or a big pack of 20 GB for 30 days.
- The Countries: It will work in 29 countries including the US, UK, France, Germany, Dubai, and South Africa.
- No India for now: Sadly, India (Truecaller’s biggest market) is not on the list. Why? Because the Indian government has very strict rules for mobile networks to stop fraud. Earlier, the government blocked other foreign eSIM apps too.
Why does Truecaller think it will win? There are already other companies selling eSIMs, like Airalo and NordVPN. But Truecaller has a big advantage—more than 50 crore (500 million) people already use and trust the Truecaller app every month.
The boss of Truecaller, Fredrik Kjell, said that other companies had to start from zero to find customers. But Truecaller already has millions of old friends using their app, so it will be much easier and cheaper for them to sell these eSIMs.
Who is helping Truecaller make this work? Truecaller is not doing this all alone. They are partnering with two big international tech companies called Telna and Telness Tech. These companies will handle all the technical mobile network stuff in the background, while Truecaller simply shows the eSIM options inside its own app for users to buy easily.
What does this mean for Truecaller’s future? This is a very smart move for Truecaller during a tough time. By adding eSIMs, the app becomes much more useful for people who travel a lot. Instead of just relying on ads to make money, Truecaller is trying to get users to pay for extra services, which will help the company stay strong and grow in the future.
