Move Over Reddit! Meta Launches New ‘Forum’ App for Deep Discussions

Meta Launches “Forum”—A New App for Facebook Groups

What is the new app? Meta (the company that owns Facebook, Instagram, and WhatsApp) has silently launched a new app called Forum. This app is just for Facebook Groups. Meta wants Forum to look and work like Reddit. They say it is a special place for deep discussions and finding real answers from communities you care about.

How does it work? You just have to log in using your Facebook account. Once you log in, all your Facebook groups, your profile, and your notifications will show up inside the Forum app. You can even use a fake name (nickname) to post things, just like you can on Facebook. Remember, your groups will still be on the main Facebook app too; whatever you post on Forum will also show up on Facebook.

What are the special AI features?

  • The “Ask” Tab: There is a cool AI feature where you can type any question, and the AI will scan different groups to give you a proper answer based on what real people are saying.
  • Admin AI Assistant: It also has an AI helper for group admins (the bosses of the groups) to help them manage the group and delete bad posts.

Meta is trying to launch many new apps This isn’t the first time Meta is trying this. They made a separate Groups app back in 2014, but nobody used it, so they closed it in 2017.

But now, Meta is on a mission to launch tons of apps. Just last month, they launched another app called Instants, where you can share disappearing photos with Instagram friends.

Mark Zuckerberg (the boss of Meta) told his team that because AI is making coding faster, they can now build many more apps. He even joked with his top manager about building 50 new apps! But they decided to start with just a few first.

The Big Problem: The writer of the article says that regular people don’t actually want 50 different apps on their phones. Also, Meta’s new apps are usually just copies of other famous apps:

  • Instants is a copy of BeReal and Snapchat.
  • Forum is a copy of Reddit.
  • Meta Edits (launched last year) is a copy of the CapCut video editor.

Meta has not given any official reply about this launch yet.

That is exactly what Meta is trying to do with Forum—they want a piece of the Reddit pie.

To sum it up simply: Meta is using your existing Facebook Groups to power this new app, hoping the massive number of people already in those groups will make it a hit. Add in some new AI features to summarize discussions, and they are hoping it feels like a cleaner, smarter version of Reddit.

But as we saw with Threads trying to take over Twitter (X), Meta loves to copy what’s already working. It will be interesting to see if people actually want a separate app just for discussions, or if Forum will end up forgotten like Meta’s older standalone apps.
